Jill Hudson

BA (HONS) Fine Art

A graduate of Falmouth College of Arts, I live and work in Cornwall.

I paint the world around me, sometimes what I imagine, but often the beauty of the sea.

My art is about the landscape of life in all its forms – it’s fleetingness, it’s poetry, it’s loneliness, and it’s reality.

At present my work can be seen in

Barnes and Henley Fine art galleries, London

The Byre Gallery, Torpoint, Cornwall

The Fowey River Gallery, Cornwall

The Harbour Gallery, Portscatho, Cornwall

A bit about myself…

Born and educated in Merseyside, I had never been abroad before, when at the age of twenty I packed and headed to Uganda for eight months where I worked for a voluntary organisation,  I taught English and Chemistry in a rural school. With no electricity or running water, I learnt a great many things, and was able to experience a very different style of life. I have nurtured a love of travelling ever since.

I returned to England with a rucksack and went on to study Fine Art at Falmouth College of Arts, Cornwall. During my degree I studied for three months at the Accademia di Belli Arti, Venice.

Since then, I have been further afield to travel in Peru and Mexico,  taking my paints with me. I went on in 2005 to work as Expedition Artist with Raleigh International in Chile.

On leaving the project I trekked to glaciers in southern Chile, and also spent time on Easter Island.

My work has also found it’s way further afield and has gone to collectors in America, Canada, Germany and the Netherlands.

In 2015 I had the wonderful opportunity of working on the first International Arts festival in Bhutan.

I am lucky enough to sail in Cornwall and sometimes crew on traditional Pilot Cutters, many of my paintings come from these experiences. I try to express the elegance of these boats and the lure of the sea.

    1. Hi Sally,
Glad you like the work. At present my gig rowing paintings sell at Sullys Picture Framing on Commercial Road, Penryn Cornwall. I am not sure where you are based. I am going down there on Friday so can confirm what works they have in stock, and the prices. They also hold prints of a small number of the works and I will give you the information on those. If you are not in the vicinity, and are interested, I can look into posting.
      Hope that is helpful
      Kind Regards
      Jill
