Golden birds

These are my golden birds, a new adventure for me.

I’m really enjoying painting these beautiful birds, quirky, characterful, fascinating. And learning to identify them better as I go. We hear them more often than we see them perhaps, and their energy is contagious. I do become drawn in to their detail, and can’t help trying to respond to that with the paint, but their charm and magic are also what I’d like to convey, and perhaps that’s where the gold comes in. A precious medium for these treasures of the animal world, their stories woven in to our folklore.

They are made using 23 carat gold leaf around the oil painting study.
